NoteDona Neal, George Stephen Davis’ second wife, had a less than stellar reputation in the family as she was reported to treat her step-children poorly. When Dona Neal contracted tuberculosis, step-daughter, Bertha E. Davis, nursed her and thus contracted TB herself. Bertha met Frank I. Pickering at church, and they became engaged. When Bertha told Frank that she had been diagnosed with TB, he said, “I will marry you if you have a year or a month or a day to live.”1
DeathShe died on 14 January 1913 at age 53.
