Rhoda Tippe grave
NoteFamily Story:  Rhoda Tippie Walls was a mid-wife and herbalist who was literate.  People would come to her so she could read or write for them.  Rhoda and John Walls were very poor and “couldn’t afford to keep the children."

She had a 70 lb. tumor growing in her abdomen at the time of her death.  She tried to cut it out herself which led to her death.  E.W. was very young at the time.  He hid on the stairs during his mother’s attempt at self-surgery.  When Rhoda died, he heard his father say, “Mother is gone.”

Rhoda was buried and then the church was moved so she is the only one buried at this rural place in southern Benton County near Edwards, MO.

A short description and directions to the gravesite are at the following link:4
Note"Jean Fisher, a cousin of F Wesley Walls, found the grave of Rhoda Tippy Walls in an overgrown area in Missouri.  A white rose bush planted at the time of the burial was still blooming. A Free Methodist cemetery had been planned, but Rhoda was the only one buried there. Much later, E.W. Walls had the grave cemented over, and another relative had a headstone placed there. The grave is now in a wooded area in Missouri near Lake of the Ozarks. The Walls farm was flooded by the Lake of the Ozarks."5
